Our fantastic model Rosie was the prime example of a Spreegirl. Was it because of her good looks? No, what made us fall in love with Rosie was her spontaneity and her willingness to give back. Her love for the environment was obvious to us. While on a rest break from shooting, she discovered a bit of trash on the beach and immediately jumped into action to get rid of it. Her great enthusiasm and love for the earth clearly shows she is a Spreegirl.

When we were trying to decide where to hold our photo shoot for Spreegirl's latest collection we were a bit stumped. What place would best show off our colorful, unique items? We knew that we wanted to emphasize our California-girl nature, and were definitely sold on the idea of a beach...now the question was. what beach?

Venice is known for being a hippy hangout-many famous artists from the 60's and 70's gravitated here (The Doors even formed there!). It's carefree vibe with the blending of different cultures was the perfect fit for Spreegirl. As you can see in this picture, it wasn't bad to call Venice Beach the office for a day.

Backyard Skills: A D.I.Y. Handbook by The Ecology Center has tons of great ideas on how to make your life more green. Today I am sharing an excerpt from the book on how to build your own terrarium.

Tools:

Clear glass container with lid, pebbles, charcoal
Organic potting soil, plants

Directions


1. Clean your container-clear glass works best. Note than an enclosed container will be entirely self-sufficient. A plant in an open container will need occasional watering.

2. Place a 1-2" layer of pebbles at the bottom of the container to promote drainage.

3. Add 1/2 C of charcoal to keep the soil fresh, filter the water and prevent fungi growth.

4. Next, add high quality organic potting soil. You'll want enough to cover the roots of whichever plants you will insert.

5. Place your plants inside your container, and plant them in the soil. If you're working with an enclosed container, add the lid now.

6. Care for your terrarium. Water if the soil looks dry. Ventilate enclosed containers by removing the lid for a short time only if lots of moisture is visible on the inside of the glass. If plants begin to fade or compete for space, prune a bit. If a plant outgrows the terrarium, move it to a larger one. And there you g(r)o(w)!

At Spreegirl, we are dedicated to leaving the world a better place than we found it, and we do this multiple ways, including using eco-friendly fabrics. Bamboo fabric is a relatively new invention, and it has many great qualities. Bamboo is very fast-growing, and it improves soil and prevents erosion. Since bamboo is naturally disease and pest repellent, it can be grown without harmful chemicals and pesticides that can hurt the Earth. We just got back from music festival Wango Tango and had a complete blast! There were so many celebs that stopped by our booth and they all raved about how much they love Spreegirl! The Hills' ladies Lo Bosworth, Heidi Montag, and Stephanie Pratt hung out for a bit, as well as Olympic Gold Medalist and Dancing With the Stars Winner Shawn Johnson. Shannon Elizabeth snatched up the "Spice It Up" tank top and told us, "I love how I feel in Spreegirl. It makes me feel so cute." We couldn't agree more.

Today was our Fall a???09 Spreegirl campaign shoot! It was a mix of excitement and chaos. Models, photographers, designers, make-up artistsa??| all running amok at our photo studio here in our LA warehouse. Our Fall collection is tres chic with bold colors and strong color blocking combinations, and since wea???re all about a???going green or going homea??? the entire collection is made of bamboo fabrics, making it both extra soft and extra earth-friendly. We just returned from MAGIC in Las Vegas, the famous fashion trade show we attend every season, and it was awesome! We had lower expectations then usual since the economy is in such a slump, but boy, were we wrong! We were busy all three days, chatting with customers, writing orders, and checking out new trends. The biggest hit of the show was the Carrie Amber lingerie collection that we brought with us. The styles are sleek, fashion forward, and sexy yet demure. Ita???s like Spreegirla???s big sister! Another hit was our Spreegirl bamboo cotton collection. For fall a???09, our colorways are bold and strong; something you rarely see for bamboo fabrics. Our signature cotton printed panties were a blow-out as well. All the cute nature-inspired prints in attention-grabbing colors caught the eye of many potential new buyers, so keep your eyes peeled for us in stores near you! Next up, stay tuned for more celeb love for Spreegirl :-D
